Dental Teeth Cleanings
Brush twice a day to keep the dentist at bay. Not so fast. Multiple studies have proven that visiting the dentist regularly and getting routine cleanings is linked to better oral health and overall health.
A dental cleaning is performed by a licensed dental hygienist. At Hale Family Dentistry, we have two hygienists, Allison and Deb. They have extensive training in a wide range of procedures, including fighting off the most difficult tartar and plaque from your teeth. They are your partner is oral care and can give your insight about what areas need more focus and share with you the areas that look great, too.
During a cleaning, your hygienist will check for oral health conditions, screen for oral cancer, and chart results based on the assessment. They will use multiple tools to remove plaque and tartar at the gum line and in-between the teeth. A routine cleaning, also known as a prophylaxis, takes about an hour. Our hygienist may also update your X-Rays and do periodontal charting if necessary. You will also meet with Dr. Hale so that he can review current X-Rays and complete a thorough examination of your mouth.
- Periodontal charting is done by a dentist or hygienist and is used to monitor how much space is between the tooth and gum tissue. It is measured in millimeters and numbers can range significantly. Healthy probing depth numbers are one through three. Also known as a Gum Chart, this charting is used by the dentist to diagnose Periodontal Disease or Gum Disease.
- Periodontal Charting is completed once per year as Dr. Hale recommends, but it is important to note that not all patients need regular periodontal charting. It is at the discretion of the dentist.
- Bite-Wing Dental X-Rays are recommended once per year.
Having a professional teeth cleaning can make you feel brand new. We strive to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your cleaning appointment. Both Allison and Deb have years of experience and continued education in perfecting their skill and making you feel at home.
